Do what now?

What do I have to do
to understand what I have to do?

There seems to be this thought from others that I already know what I have to do. In the creative field – why is this? The thing that needs doing is usually a problem; and needs a “creative” solution. Why should I already know what the solution is?

I am constantly being asked “How long will it take? What are you going to do?” And this is all before understanding what the problem is. The other thing that comes, usually from project managers, is the “We need to jump on this; what can we get Joe Bloggs to do, now, to speed it up?” And before you know it everyone is running around like headless chickens trying to fix something.

“Hmm, hold on. What are we trying to do?”

I had a good example yesterday, (shame I can’t share due to confidentiality agreements), when I was told by someone that they had been asked to do a something but had never been told what that something is.

Life goes on…
