Less meat, more energy

by Andy

We are seeing a fashion in health lately. Drink less alcohol, eat more vegetables, eat the right foods, only organic. Everyone knows the right thing for you.

So lets look at what it means to eat less meat.

Did you know it can take up-to 5 days for a piece of red meat to pass through your body from your lips to your loo. Five days of energy wasted on a few tender, but crispy, chunks of roast pork – oh, I could eat a whole plate, with a dish of mustard. But knowing the time it takes for my body to deal with this it makes you wonder if it is a healthy option. Apparently, according to a doctor on the radio, your body is more sluggish whilst processing red meat.

So can I live without red meat? Can I replace the supply of protein that meat gives me?
My body already has a supply of protein, or at least it has a supply of something that can be converted into proteins. This will last a few days, but what then? I can look to what other vegetarians are eating; rice, whole wheat bread, tofu, broccoli, spinach and peas etc. Not sounding too bad is it. Until it comes to the lentils; then I worry that I’ll spend my whole days just boiling the little blighters.

What can I look forward to if I do reduce, or eliminate, my intake of meat? I could lose the sluggish feeling in a bout four weeks, know that my body is spending less energy on digestion, less risk of colon cancer as the food is spending less time in my body.

Sounds like it’s worth a shot. Hmm, just one more plate of Siu Yuk :)

Enjoy your meal
