I wanted to share a few sketches I’ve put together using the “new to me” application called Brushes. Continue reading

Graphic resource
Ever find yourself in need of a graphic effect or pattern that you just don’t have time to create? This was my exact situation today. I had to ask someone to create it for me but the result you get just isn’t what you want – if only you had some time to do it yourself.
I discovered this site today
In fact the exact thing I need is already there, so I’ll be downloading this tomorrow.

I know it’s an easy job to create a nice brushed metal effect (if you have the time) but these are perfect.

Trying to define what a tweet is
I had a go at this a while ago but focused more on availability of the message. This time around I’ve added the immediacy of the different communication methods. Having to make a few assumptions on how I generally use each method: Continue reading
Taking a look at Painter
Painter is one of those programs that we bought a couple (well three) years ago, we still have version 9.1, but we never really took it by the horns and and got to love it. Love it like we do Photoshop or illustrator. Well maybe its time for a change of heart.
It seems it has a lot to offer; specifically if you want to illustrate and not just retouch a photo. So this is a post to establish some main links that we will be using as we learn a little more about this particular beast of a program. And maybe we will love this also.
I guess the first link we have to give is
Imagine FX

This is where it all started; we have the very first edition of the magazine. That was when we lived in England and when it was affordable. We have nearly every issue to the point we left.
This site does have a lot of downloadable exercises that come from the archived magazines.

If there is one artist that I had to choose as favourite, this would probably be the one.
Painter

Of course it wouldn’t be any help if I didn’t include the two links that make all this possible; that would be Corel who make Painter, and Wacom who probably make the only tablet worth using (can I say that?).
DeviantArt
This is one I keep hearing about but never had a good look. So now’s the time.
Look back later and see our progress. And if you know of any other great links then let us know in the comments.
