Are mobiles missing the mark?

I’ve started looking for a new mobile. Yep, the years contract on my current skypephone is coming to an end and I need to work out which phone and network I change to – if I change.phoneIt looks likely that I will as my current network (3) is owned be Li Ka-shing; I’ve no personal problem with the family, it’s just that we’ve had some bad experiences with other brands owned by the same group. So we try to boycott them.

Back to the phones dilema. If I change network then I have to get a new phone as the Skypephone is locked to the 3 network.

The problem I’m having, when choosing, is the options given when choosing a phone revolve around;
cameras, music, internet, games etc. Where is the option for call quality?

Why is it when I ask a phone seller what is the best option for a phone with the best call quality – they look at you as if you’re missing a screw!or they just pick the nearest cheap phone and push that on you.

Why can we not see mobile phones categorised by call quality? Where are the basics?

I think we’ve gone (or maybe going) over the top with all the gadgets being stuffed into our mobiles that it allows us to lose our priorities; we have to lead with the call function and then follow with the rest. This is a phone!

As a last note; one of the reasons for choosing the Skypephone was the brand association of Skype having very good call quality – just a shame this wasn’t experienced in the real product.
